Our curriculum at both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated. All our children have equal access to the curriculum which incorporates English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, ICT, Music, Physical Education, Technology, Art and Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship. All children study Religious Education unless parents specifically choose otherwise.
Assessing progress and achievement
Assessment takes place in all subjects continuously throughout the school year and we work closely with other schools in and across the Hexham partnership to ensure accuracy of assessments. Children are encouraged to play an active part in the assessment of their work and take pride in their achievements. Children are given many opportunities to reflect on their learning and, with the help of their teachers, they know the targets they are aiming for and how they can improve their work. We aim to keep parents well informed of their child’s progress. Each child receives an annual written report and in Year 6 this will include details of attainment in the Key Stage 2 Statutory Assessments. Parents are invited to come and discuss their child’s progress at regular consultation evenings.
We create opportunities for a vast range of enrichment activities both in and out of the classroom. The projects that we organise are very popular with the children and we are supported by a wide range of visitors, including artists, musicians, sports coaches, charities and members of the community. In Key Stage 3 our Enrichment Project is timetabled weekly for a whole afternoon and children participate in a carousel of activities, details of which can be found on our PSHE curriculum page here ..
