Curriculum Intent - Design & TechnologyAt Corbridge Middle School, Design and Technology is a practical and valuable subject where creativity is nurtured and skills are taught so that pupils are able to generate brilliant ideas and turn them into a reality. Our curriculum is underpinned by resourcefulness, resilience and innovation.
In Key Stage 2, there are numerous practical opportunities in the workshop. They learn about the properties of materials, their uses and how to work with them. The curriculum provides pupils with opportunities to design, make and evaluate using a range of tools and equipment. Safe work practice is our top priority when in the workshop environment. In Key Stage 3, pupils build on prior knowledge and skills with an increasing focus on independence and responsibility. The Design and Technology curriculum at Key Stage 3 is delivered across three subjects: Art - with a focus on resistant materials; Computing with a focus on systems and control; and Food Science with a focus on food, textiles and electronics. Our curriculum approach supports pupils to overcome challenges and learn to solve problems with resilience, care and responsibility. |
