Sculpture Competition for Schools Teacher Guide
Inspire your pupils to design and create a sculpture made entirely out of waste materials. The sculpture can be no more than 1 meter in any dimension. Encourage them to use their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) skills to create something amazing.
The competition can be used to help teach about the Sustainable Development Goals as it relates to Sustainable Cities and Communities (#SDG11), Life Below Water (#SDG14) and Life on Land (#SDG15).
To make the competition even more exciting ask the students to pay 50p to enter. The winner gains half the money raised and your school can chose to donate the other half to environmental charities such as Toilet Twinning or the Marine Conservation Charity.
Operation Re-Craft is a not-for-profit campaign that aims to raise awareness of waste, the environment and sustainability. Students from Corbridge Middle School in Northumberland came up with the Big Idea during the Solutions for the Planet challenge (#S4TP). They hope to change attitudes, reduce plastic litter and make people happier.
