Year 8 Visit to Hexham Fire Station
Each year, groups of children visit Hexham Fire Station for an insight into the important work they undertake. Amelia Dixon has written an article about the visit.
We first were shown around the fire engine and all the equipment inside by the firemen. Then we were shown a presentation about firemen and the Hexham fire station including what jobs they do and the dangers of different things around. After that we each put on a pair of fireman trousers and a jacket. We also put on a helmet, pair of gloves and willies. Then we went outside and did some hose exercises and then climbed a ladder to the top of the tower. After lunch we were shown the water rescue equipment and a power point about the dangers of water. Finally, we did some rescue hose target throwing. It was a fun day packed with fun activities and we learnt lots of important things which made us all more aware about the fire service, what they do and the dangers around.
